Day 2 Americade/New England Trip

Thursday, May 29 - We left Spartanburg, SC around 7:45 this morning. The morning was nippy and dreary, but n0 actual rain so we were happy. We missed the sign for I-77 was NOT clearly marked and by the time we'd driven 40 more miles we thought we may have missed our turn. We stopped at a rest stop and found out that that happens often there. We got back on track, saw some back roads and lost about an hour of time. Not as bad as it could have been. The sun came out a little after noon, turning out to be a beautiful day! Thank you Lord!!!! Ray surprised me with a side trip to Natural Bridge, were I took about 30 pictures. I sure love my new digital camera!!! We walked under the Natural Bridge and down the trail to Lacey Falls. There is a Monican Tribe village, We talked to two of the women from the Monican tribe, we watched them make baskets and jewelry. I got a Tear Bead Necklace made from seed beads and corn beads. As the Trail of Tears began the people cried their tears of sorrow. They cried for the loss of family and home. As they walked along the trail, tears fell to the ground. Where these tears fell, there sprang a small shoot and from it fell the tears of the people's suffering. Legend hold that tese corn bead plants can be found from the Great Smokey Mountains to Green County Oklahoma.

We arrived in Hagerstown, MD around 7:30pm. Long day, but nice break at the Natural Bridge. Tomorrow we head for Shanksville, PA and Quakerstown, PA.
